What’s My Card Post?

My Card Post is a peer-to-peer sports trading marketplace built to make buying and selling collectibles easier. Instead of charging fees on every transaction, it runs on a subscription model, which allows users to connect and make deals the same way they would at a card show. Because of this, we don’t limit communication on or off the platform, and we focus on building real relationships rather than keeping users anonymous.

The platform supports many types of deals, including trades, cash offers, multi-card deals, and auctions. My Card Post has grown to over 17,000 users and continues to gain traction in the hobby, recently earning the Best Marketplace Award powered by Yahoo Sports and Mantel.

  • 🚫 The web experience felt slow and clunky on mobile, making core actions like browsing, messaging, and making offers frustrating

  • 🚫 Early mobile builds by our developers did not feel like My Card Post and lacked clarity, polish, and brand consistency

  • 🚫 Lack of discovery since most collectors were mobile-first and would search the app store for us, not find MCP, and drop off

  • 🚫 Communication was not fast enough for a real-time marketplace, leading to missed messages, offers, and time-sensitive deals

  • 🚫 The product lacked a live, responsive feel that would later be critical for features like auctions and negotiations

The Problem

The Goals

  • 🎯 Keep the mobile experience familiar to the web so existing users did not need to relearn the platform

  • 🎯 Use in app purchases to support frictionless subscription upgrades and long term revenue

  • 🎯 Support push notifications for deals, messages, and updates to improve responsiveness and retention

The Outcome pt. 1

I have been involved with My Card Post since day one, starting at launch in November 2022. Early on, my role was focused on graphic design, creating simple visuals and assets in Canva. As the web platform grew, we asked our developers to begin working on a mobile app, but the early versions did not feel like MCP. It wasn’t intuitive, clean, or on-brand.

I was then tasked with designing the entire mobile app from start to finish, a process that took roughly nine months. I designed everything in Adobe XD, which, in hindsight, wasn’t the ideal tool. Figma has since proven to be a much better fit for how I like to work and iterate. While this was my first real attempt at UI design, and far from perfect, it laid the foundation for how I think about product design today.

The Outcome pt. 2

After the app launched, I felt like I had a much deeper understanding of UI and UX, to the point where my earlier designs no longer met my own standards and needed a full rethink. I decided to redesign the entire app in Figma, which quickly proved to be a much better tool for how I work and iterate.

Between the original Adobe XD file and the updated Figma designs below, there were hundreds of hours spent designing, testing ideas, and pulling inspiration. I feel far more confident in the current design and overall system of the app today, while still recognizing there is more work to do, especially around onboarding and long term retention.

Looking Ahead

Since the initial app release, we have shipped over 50 updates focused on new features, UI improvements, and bug fixes. As the user base has grown, we have started introducing new ways to buy and sell within the app, including auction events. Our goal is to build the best app for collectors of any kind, a true all in one platform where users can buy, sell, trade, bid, post, and collect within a single community.
